I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) and so do two of my three children. I have had 22 bone breaks, including legs, elbow and ankles. My son Aiden, 11, has had 43 bone breaks.
Those breaks don’t count fingers and toes, which we break often. One time, my husband pulled the quilt up on our bed over us, and that snapped my toe.
My daughter Amber, who is two, also has OI. So far, she’s only had a couple of fractures; a leg, and a femur fracture when she fell off the couch – which meant 10 days in traction before a full-body cast. It’s hard when they get to that daredevil stage and you have to say, sorry, sweetheart, you can’t do that – she’s still too young to understand.
