Tens of thousands of polio survivors are struggling to access treatment for symptoms that return even after they were overcome in childhood.
It takes on average six years to be given a diagnosis of post-polio syndrome, a degenerative condition that affects 50,000 in the UK. This means patients miss out on vital treatment that can slow the progression of symptoms.
